2023 Okinawan FEASTival (09/04-09/18)!

What is Okinawan FEASTival?

From the opening of American Cafe in 1923 to today, there has been over 350 Okinawan owned restaurants in Hawaii. Most of the original restaurants have closed but there is a new generation operating today. In the spirit of Yuimaaru (communities supporting one another), we are asking the community for their support.

Celebrate our Okinawan owned restaurants and food businesses by ordering Okinawan food, discover new eateries by checking out FEASTival specials, and find new favorites dishes. At the end of the two weeks, the hope is that you will know all the Okinawan (& Okinawan-at-Heart) owned restaurants on the island and continue to support them throughout the year. Okinawan FEASTival is a time to explore new places and re-visit old favorites! This is also a wonderful celebration of Okinawan cuisine, drinks, and culture.

Okinawan Festival will be at the Hawaii Convention Center 09/02-09/03 & FEASTival will be held 09/04-09/18.

Special Dishes for FEASTival!

A number of the Okinawan owned restaurants are connecting to their roots and creating special Okinawan inspired dishes or deals that will only be available during FEASTival!

Celebrate Okinawan Food!

We are extremely lucky to have so many Okinawan dishes regularly available for us to eat. Not just for this special week but all year. Okinawan dishes were not on regular menus but added on by request. The owners thought Okinawan food would not sell. If we don’t regularly order these dishes, then it will prove it’s not worth it to keep on menus. We need to prove that wrong!

Currently Open Okinawan Owned Restaurant List

We have compiled a list of currently open Okinawan owned restaurants, dessert places, and food related businesses. There are around 65 Okinawan owned restaurants and food related businesses operating on Oahu.
How many have you visited?
